Machete Tacos

Machete Tacos – Mexican in Namba

Over the past few years more and more Mexican restaurants have been popping up in Osaka, a development that I know I’m not alone in welcoming. This year, as luck would have it, I watched with great anticipation and a few hunger pangs as the old cafe next to my apartment transformed into one more – Machete Tacos.

From the custom-welded cactus window guards and the vintage light fixtures, to the hand-drawn desert motif covering the windows it is easy to see that a lot of thought and love went into making Machete. This attention to detail also extends to the food. The colorfully designed menus showcase all the delicious basics they have on offer – burritos, tacos, enchiladas, nachos just to name a few. For the thirsty, they have a wide range of tequilas and Mexican Beers as well as several soft drinks. I personally love the guava juice.

The smiley owners are also music lovers and they welcome you to peruse their impressive vinyl collection and request your faves. The vibe is just like a cool margarita, fresh and chilled with just enough tequila.

What We Ate

To date I think Ive tried almost 90% of the menu. My personal favorite is the chicken enchilada, although smaller than the hearty burritos at El Zocalo, the balance of fillings to toppings is just right. I also really love their chicken soup, which is lovely and light and compliments any main dish.

Good To Know

The food is lovingly prepared, meaning it can take a while to get if the place is busy or you’re with a large group of people, so it’s best to keep this in mind if you’re in a hurry. They also provide take out. Main dishes range between ¥800 – ¥1200.
