Art Aquarium Osaka

Art Aquarium – Osaka Events

For it’s 10th Anniversary Festival, Art Aquarium, the creation of artist Hidetomo Kimura, has seen the Dojima River Forum event space transformed into a spectacular kaleidoscopic rainbow-colored goldfish universe. At night the space undergoes a further shift, and becomes a full blown night club complete with live DJ sets, light shows and a stocked bar (Night Aquarium).

The exhibition is spread over two main rooms displaying a variety of tanks connected by a smaller fish-lined corridor. The space is kept dark in order to really showcase the fishy focal points, I’ve honestly never seen such vibrant fish! The optical illusion created by the brilliantly designed lighting concept and uniquely shaped tanks make some of the fish give off a spacey neon glow.

Overall the exhibition is perfectly balanced, with visuals and acoustics impeccably harmonized, art lovers, fish lovers, children and adults alike will surely be captivated. As the space lends itself very well to great picture taking, with what that means for social media it comes as no surprise that there has been a big increase in the amount of visitors since it first opened.

Don’t let that deter you, but if you’re after a more relaxing experience I recommend going midday on a weekday if you can. If you can only make it on a weekend do expect to encounter a bit of a crowd but don’t worry too much, it really doesn’t detract much from the overall visually stimulating experience. The event runs from July 6th to September 5th so make sure you catch it (pun included).
